Adela Mede is a Slovak-Hungarian musician and singer whose works weave together elements of Central European folklore, contemporary vocal techniques, minimalistic compositional structures and experimental electronics. Her intimate, powerful songs sung in three languages explore the reality of a life stretched across borders. The voice is central to her practice; it’s dominant, center-stage, an expression of a universal language using which Mede describes a reality beyond our individual experiences. Adela Mede’s work has received attention in The Wire, The Quietus, Bandcamp Daily, Dazed or NTS Radio.
During the course of 2022 and 2023, she performed across Europe on tours alongside Claire Rousay, Dialect, or Martyna Basta and shared the bill with Lucrecia Dalt, Grand River, Irena & Vojtěch Havlovi and others. She studied popular music at Goldsmiths University and is now based in Bratislava, Slovakia.
Adela Mede is an artist of the SHAPE+ platform for innovative music and interdisciplinary art, co-funded by the European Union and Pro Helvetia.
