PYUR is the burgeoning solo endeavor of Berlin-based experimental electronic artist Sophie Schnell. With a foundation rooted in classical composition and vocal artistry, her works are born from the fusion of her synesthetic experiences and her upbringing within a lineage of shamans, resulting in her unique and boundary-defying sound. PYUR first appeared in 2016 with the full-length audiovisual album Epoch Sinus on Scuba’s Hotflush Recordings. Shortly after its release, PYUR performed on Stockhausen’s Oktophonie for Berlin Atonal, earning a return to the iconic Kraftwerk months later for a Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester commission with PAN’s Valerio Tricoli.
In Fall 2019 PYUR released her second album on Avant Garde Imprint Subtext Recordings, the borderless sonic terrain of “Oratorio for the Underworld”. During an intense period of travel between a fisher village in Bretagne, the Jura mountains and an alpine village in Tirol, PYUR composed her third album “Lucid Anarchy“, nine prismatic, nebulous and emotionally raw electronic pieces that evoke the ecstatic bittersweetness of discovering one’s continued existence amongst the perpetual collapse of certainty and self. The album was released on January 12th ’24 on Subtext Recordings, followed by performances at Lunchmeat Festival, Rewire Festival and Fiber Festival.
