Irene Bianco is a percussionist and performer active mainly in the fields of experimental music, contemporary music, and free improvisation. Irene is originally from Italy, where she first started her musical training playing drum set and then switched her focus onto classical percussion.
She studied percussion performance at music academies in Italy and Denmark, where she is now based. At the same time, her experimental nature, curiosity, and versatility led her to investigate her instrument in new ways, both acoustically and with the use of electronics. Her music has been described as “sound poetry” that takes the listener to explore the spontaneous and unconventional. Irene´s debut solo album will be released in the fall of 2024 by Permanent Draft (London, UK).
She is also an active freelancer in the danish and international music scene and loves, especially, to collaborate on projects where music connects with other art forms. Her main chamber activities are at the moment with Damkapellet Collective and Wolfskin Ensemble.
Irene Bianco is an artist of the SHAPE+ platform for innovative music and interdisciplinary art, co-funded by the European Union and Pro Helvetia.
